Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is a very common complaint that can arise from a number of different structures in and around the joint. At Physioform Cammeray, we assess shoulder pain carefully to identify the underlying cause and provide targeted treatment, to restore comfortable and functional movement.

About This Condition
The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body, which makes it susceptible to a range of injuries and conditions. Pain can originate from the rotator cuff tendons, the joint capsule, the biceps tendon, the acromioclavicular joint or the surrounding muscles. An accurate assessment is essential to direct treatment effectively.
Common Causes
  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy or tears
  • Shoulder impingement
  • Acromioclavicular joint injuries
  • Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
  • Shoulder instability or dislocation
  • Biceps tendon pathology
  • Referred pain from the cervical spine
Common Symptoms
  • Aching or sharp pain in the shoulder or upper arm
  • Difficulty raising the arm overhead or to the side
  • Pain when reaching behind the back or across the body
  • Night pain that disrupts sleep
  • Weakness in the shoulder or arm
  • A sense of instability or clicking in the joint
