Ankle Pain
Ankle pain is a very common complaint that can arise from a number of causes, ranging from acute sprains to longstanding conditions affecting the tendons or joints. At Physioform Cammeray, we assess each presentation individually to identify the root cause and provide targeted treatment to get you moving again.
The ankle is a complex joint supported by a network of ligaments, tendons and muscles. When any of these structures are placed under excessive load or suffer injury, pain and reduced function can follow. Left unmanaged, ankle pain can affect your ability to walk, exercise, carry out everyday activities and affect your return to sport.
- Lateral ankle sprains from rolling the ankle
- Achilles tendinopathy from overuse or sudden load increases
- Peroneal or Tibialis Posterior tendon injuries
- Osteoarthritis of the ankle joint
- Impingement of soft tissue or bone within the joint
- Pain around the ankle that worsens with movement or weight-bearing
- Swelling or bruising following injury
- Stiffness after rest, particularly in the morning
- Instability or a feeling of the ankle giving way
- Tenderness to touch over specific structures
At Physioform, we will assess your ankle thoroughly to determine which structures are involved and how best to manage your condition. Treatment is tailored to your level of activity and your goals, whether that is returning to sport or simply being able to walk without discomfort. Rehabilitation focuses on restoring range of motion, building strength and retraining balance to reduce the likelihood of re-injury.
- Detailed assessment to identify the source of pain
- Soft tissue treatment and joint mobilisation

- Balance and proprioception retraining
