Golfer’s Elbow

Golfer’s elbow, or medial epicondylitis, is a condition causing pain on the inner side of the elbow and forearm. Despite its name, this condition can affect anyone who performs repetitive gripping, wrist or forearm movements, not just golfers. At Physioform Cammeray, we provide evidence-based treatment to address the underlying cause and support lasting recovery.
About This Condition
Golfer’s elbow involves degeneration or micro-tearing of the tendons that attach to the medial epicondyle (the bony bump on the inner elbow). It is most commonly caused by repetitive loading of the forearm flexor muscles. Without appropriate management, the condition can become persistent and impact on work, sport and daily activities.
Common Causes
  • Repetitive gripping or wrist flexion activities
  • Manual work such as carpentry, plumbing or painting
  • Racket sports with poor technique or equipment
  • Golf, particularly with incorrect swing mechanics
  • Sudden increases in training load
Common Symptoms
  • Pain and tenderness on the inner side of the elbow
  • Pain that may radiate down the forearm
  • Weakness in the wrist and hand
  • Discomfort with gripping, lifting or carrying
  • Stiffness in the elbow, especially in the morning
